Experienced referee John Ashton to take charge of Cooney-Calverley Cup

Pacific Coast Rugby League is thrilled to announce the head match official for the Cooney-Calverley Cup on December 10th. The man in the middle will be referee John Ashton. John brings years of experience as a referee in the RFL pyramid in England and served as touch judge in Super League.

John moved to Southern California a few years ago. John referees youth soccer in the area and made his US rugby league debut last year with California Rugby League. Between refereeing and raising a family, John still finds the time to train for the Los Angeles marathon, which is coming up in March 2023.

Super League fans will know his brother, Matty Ashton, who has over 100 appearances for Warrington since 2020. John is certainly the biggest Wire fan in America!
